The shape of this species enables it to move adeptly in and out of reed-stems, while its coloration camouflages it perfectly when at rest among the plants. A deep tank is needed to contain this fish comfortably. It is imported less frequently than Pterophyllum scalare, which is bred commecially in large numbers.
