Vitamin D3 deficiency:
This condition usually develops from a lack of sunlight in captive conditions. Its symptoms include swollen mouths and limbs and lethargy. By allowing specimens access to plenty of sunlight and by adding fluorescent fixtures with high quality UVB-emitting bulbs over their indoor enclosures, this condition can be curtailed before it develops (Bearded Dragons in Captivity: Repashy, Allen pg. 52 -53).

Lighting:
UVB is important and allows diurnal captive reptiles to produce Vitamin D3 which in turns allows them to properly absorb calcium they need to form healthy bones and to have healthy, working muscles (Bearded Dragons in Captivity: Repashy, Allen. pg. 22).
Your UV bulb will need to be replaced in 8-12 months, depending on usage. Fluorescent bulbs lose their UV radiation and about 50% of their lighting output quality within one year. Changing your terrarium bulb regularly ensures optimal light conditions and UV radiation to keep your reptiles healthy (www.exo-terra.com).
