Birmingham man drowns in Bayview Lake:
A Birmingham man fell into Bayview Lake and drowned Tuesday after a snake crawled into his fishing boat.
The man was identified as Renell Goodwin, 47. Divers from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department recovered Goodwin's body about 2 Tuesday afternoon from the western Jefferson County lake.
Sheriff's Sgt. Randy Christian said Goodwin and a female friend were fishing when the snake crawled into their boat.
The two stood up to avoid the snake. The woman fell out. Goodwin then lost his balance and fell out.
Another fisherman, who was on the bank, jumped into the lake and rescued the woman.
Goodwin, whom Christian said was wearing waders, drowned in eight feet of water.
